Chef Extravaganza features 45 restaurants
Tantalize your taste buds at Chef Extravaganza today, an annual smorgasbord of delicious dishes.
The event will feature food from more than 40 different restaurants and will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen, 621 S. Adams St. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted and all proceeds will go to assist the soup kitchen in feeding people in need.
Isabella Community Soup Kitchen Director Genny Sobaski said in the past the event has attracted about 200 people, Sobaski said, and in the last 10 to 12 years has raised about $2,000 on average.
“We are hoping to do better this year,” Sobaski said.
Everything from pancakes to chicken tenders and cookies to cheesecakes will be featured, Sobaski said.
“I think it’s an excellent idea getting the local community involved with local organizations,” said Bay City senior Elizabeth Makinen.
Buffalo Wild Wings, Bob Evans, Central Michigan Catering and Max & Emily’s are among the participating businesses.
Buffalo Wild Wings will be providing their specialty by donating 200 wings, general manager Jess Boughner said.
Kroger is one of the soup kitchen’s many consistent helpers. They donate bread once a week.
“There’s a need for it,” said Kroger co-manager Janice Rohac. “It’s good to help out the community.”
Preparation begins a couple of months in advance, Sobaski said, and there are a lot of Central Michigan University students who help serve.
“I want to volunteer there over the summer,” said Birmingham junior Akli Delvecchio. “I love food.”
