A two-wheeled wedding

Both Michael Asher and DeEtta Henricks stared deeply into each others eyes Wednesday as they repeated their vows and said “I do.”

But this wedding was unlike many, because unlike most both Asher and Henricks were wearing all their Harley Davidson gear and they didn’t walk down a ‘aisle’ of people, but rather of motorcycles.

The couple from Coleman was married Wednesday at C & S Sports, 4741 E. Pickard Road, in front of many friends and family.

Asher, 57, said they had discussed the idea together, but Henricks surprised him with by getting all the plans together relatively quickly.

“We were kicking (the idea) around, we’ve been coming (to C & S) for years and didn’t know if we would be here, so I came home from downstate and she had everything set up,” he said. “It’s a little more than I expected, I’m a low-key guy and it totally caught me off-guard.”

Both Harley enthusiasts, the couple met in 2000 in Flat Rock and started dating soon afterward.

DeEtta, 49, said since they had started discussing weddings, a Harley wedding had always been a main point of discussion.

“We’ve talked about it quite a bit. We didn’t say in a Harley shop actually,” she said. “We got the rings from here.”

After the couple took their first married kiss, Michael was quick to make a joke to family and friends cheering for them.

“Now we can tell everyone she’s pregnant,” he said, as everyone laughed.

Maid of Honor Leah Bruce of Coleman said the idea for the wedding was one that really interested her.

“I was really shocked, I think it was great. It was totally Mike and De,” Bruce said. “They are all Harley, and this is what they wanted and I think it was perfect.”

Afterwards as the couple cut the cake both made sure to cover their faces with frosting, showing their love for one another but having a little fun as well.

“I’m in awe, this is great. I love her so much, it’s been a long-time coming,” Asher said.
