BREAKING NEWS: Bomb scare at Kroger a false alarm
Two bomb squad vehicles were called Saturday afternoon to Kroger, 4080 E. Bluegrass Road, after a suspicious-looking milk carton was found by an employee outside of the store.
It was first feared that some sort of makeshift fuse may have been wrapped up in duct tape to the milk carton, said Michigan State Police Sgt. David Kaiser.
Troopers from the MSP were called to the scene at 3:05 p.m., and bomb squad vehicles from both Grayling and Bridgeport also arrived to investigate the situation, which ended up being a false alarm.
Kroger employees and shoppers watched as police set tape around the front of the store.
Bomb squad officers sent a remote-controlled robot into the area where the carton was to take x-rays. Based on the robot’s findings, it did appear that there was something within the carton.
Then, a bomb squad member inspected the carton himself, and discovered only a simple crack filler substance used for parking lots, not a fuse, was present inside.
The tape was cleared just before 7 p.m. after it was determined the milk carton posed no imminent danger.
“Everything appears safe and people will be let back in,” Kaiser said.
