Breaking News: Soccer defeats Valparaiso 1-0

The women’s soccer team got its third win of the season Friday as it defeated Valparaiso 1-0 at the CMU Soccer Complex.

The game was scoreless for the first 82 minutes until freshman Laura Twidle scored her second game winner and fourth goal overall to give the Chippewas a 1-0 lead.

“She is just so smooth,” said coach Tom Anagnost. “She is one of our most dynamic attacking players. When she gets the chance, she finishes it.”

The Chippewas also saw every player on the roster play in today’s game ,including senior Stephanie Martin who saw action for the first time all season while still dealing with injury.

“I felt a little slow out there,” she said. “It wasn’t my best.”

CMU controlled possession most of the game while outshooting the Crusaders 17-6 over the game and both Shay Mannino and Stephanie Turner played a half to combine for a shutout.

Anagnost said that he saw a lot of his players play well today.

“The women worked hard and we definitely deserved the outcome,” he said.
