Very few questions remain for this team.

The three-win, one-loss Chippewas have shown just about as much as they are going to show this season.

Over the past three weeks — going back to the now-historic 29-27 thriller Sept. 12 at Michigan State — the football team has shown just how much potential it has for the season.

But last Saturday, the Chippewas showed they have some serious potential in the conference after the devastating finish to last season.

They have faced big-armed quarterbacks and strong defenses. They surprised the Big Ten and crushed the Football Championship Subdivision.

And they have not skipped a beat.

So again, there remain few questions.

Conference Favorites

With the 16.5 spread going into Saturday’s matchup against Mid-American Conference foe Akron, even Vegas underestimated the Chippewas.

Central Michigan went on to handily beat the Zips 48-21 Saturday at Kelly/Shorts.

It did not have it all that day — special teams missed a field goal and a point-after and its coverage allowed close to 200 return yards.

But that did not stop the offense and senior quarterback Dan LeFevour from picking up the slack and scoring. And scoring. And scoring.

And the 21 points allowed? Those came from short-field situations. Otherwise, the defense was dominant in every possible way.

Nobody is predicting this will stop.

Things to Forget

CMU’s season-opening 19-6 loss to Arizona should be forgotten. That was an unevenly matched game with CMU playing a team with speed at every position.

What this team has done since they left Tucson, Ariz., is nothing short of spectacular. The win in East Lansing over Michigan State cannot be called an upset anymore.

If those teams played again this season, you know that CMU would be favored.

But what should be foremost forgotten is last season.

The three consecutive losses to close the season cost the Chippewas a third consecutive MAC Championship.

But with the Chippewas opening the conference schedule with a statement win like the one last Saturday, you cannot say some of those players were out there with the smallest chip on their shoulders.

That 48-21 final should send shockwaves across the MAC. It proves last year is in the past.

This year is the present, and the product on the field is consistently stellar.
