Sports Update: Soccer defeats Ball State 3-0
The soccer team set a school-record with its eighth straight win today in a 3-0 win against Ball State.
The Chippewas have also now gone 752 minutes and 9 seconds without allowing a goal, another school-record.
“It’s definitely really exciting but it isn’t anywhere near our primary goal to win the MAC,” said senior forward Amanda Waugh.
Waugh started off the scoring for the Chippewas right before halftime as she shielded a defender from the ball and sent the ball off the right post and into the back of the net with 2 minutes and 15 seconds to go in the first half.
Central got its second goal when junior Valerie Prause scored on a rebound after sophomore Clair Horton hit the crossbar on a free kick from 35 yards out.
Coach Tom Anagnost said the team played better as the game wore on.
“We started a little off, but they (Ball State) had a lot to do with that,” he said. “We regained our composure and starting imposing ourselves on them and we did get better as the time went along.”
Redshirt-freshman Bethany Allport finished off the scoring for Central with her first of the season after Stephanie Martin sent a long pass to her on the left side line. Allport took the first defender and then sent a shot over the outstretched hands of Nicole Wood into the right side of the net.
Central plays Miami at 1 p.m. Sunday in the CMU Soccer Complex.
