Sports Update: Women’s basketball loses to DePaul

The women’s basketball team lost in ts regular season opener Friday 86-76 at No. 17 DePaul.

CMU (0-1) was able to keep the score close for much of the game, trailing 41-37 at the half. While falling behind in the second half by as many as 13 points, the team cut the lead to six with 2:38 remaining, but could not get any closer.

“The game was a lot closer than what the final score showed,” said head coach Sue Guevara.

Junior Shonda Long led the way for the Chippewas, scoring a career-high 30 points on 7-of-12 3-point shooting.

CMU was out rebounded 49-31, leading to 18 second chance points for the Blue Demons.

DePaul (1-0) had four players score in double figures.
