Hey, any show of resistance against this very unfair cancellation of The Promise Grant is a good thing. If the state can cancel a promise that they made to the kids that wanted to make something of themselves, that is a testament to NOT have faith in the govt. that makes promises to us. Investing in The Promise Grant seems like a better investment in the future then paying for all the welfare and I am fairly sure no cuts were made in that area. That girl's presentation was Excellent and at least she is doing something positive while most of the whiners complain and/or do nothing. You young people need to mobilize and make yourselves heard on this issue and if you really care, find out how to become involved and then get involved!!!
  • That girl is a UAW hack

Thanks CM-Life for posting a video of this! Appreciate it.

the partisan whine of the GOP is just a bunhc of white noise until they can come up with actual solutions themselves instead of just saying no to everything. Ashamed I use to be one of them (a Repub)
  • What's the point of a college scholarship when there are no jobs in Michigan after graduation? This governor has failed.
  • Oh Boy
Her own district of Northville voted against her 4-1, yet the intellectual college students and urban dwellers continue to eat her right up. There are now more Michigan government jobs than Manufacturing jobs.

"I know is heresy to you right-wingers, but taxes are a minor inconvenience for a long-term payoff." as 912 said.

Oh...what you have yet to learn once you grow up and get out of college. And if you ARE out of college, wow.......

    MINOR inconvenience?? Amazing.
  • Should we raise taxes when there is money to the fund promise scholarship in the budget? The right answer is no. Should we raise taxes when we are spending more than enough money to fund the Promise on an unnecessary police state headquarters building? The right answer is no. Should the governor use students as political tools to push for an agenda of corruption? The right answer is no.

While I agree the governor should have held this in a larger venue, the "no tax increase" whine from the GOP has grown terribly tedious. It's their simplistic "solution" to everything from an ailing economy to the swine flu.

Like it or not, taxes to fund the Michigan Promise and similar programs are an investment in our future. Progressive business leaders look more closely at a state's educational climate and commitment to its young people when deciding where to set up shop than at whether they'll have to pay a few extra bucks in taxes.

I know is heresy to you right-wingers, but taxes are a minor inconvenience for a long-term payoff.

I arrived at auditorium about 15 minutes early and was able to easily find a place to stand and watch. The vast majority of students in and around the auditorium showed strong support for the promise.
  • Completely agree. She's scared that the students of Michigan will know the truth. That she is in fact pushing for a tax increase, not to directly fund the Promise, but to indirectly push for payouts and kickbacks for her political friends in Lansing. The non-answer she gave me today exemplifies that.

Basically they held the Governor's speech in the smallest auditorium on campus for two reasons. One, they didn't want a large group of angry, upset students to protest during the speech and make CMU look bad on the campus. Two, Granholm probably wanted a small auditorium so that the news reports can talk about how hundreds of people were left outside waiting....this makes it look like a lot of people are in favor of the Promise and Granholm can use that to try and get Congress to bring it back

Oh my, *not* UAW clothes?! Not those traitorous Michiganders! Were they carrying little red books and herding people wearing dunce's caps? Who says the cultural revolution is dead? Keep on their tails, observant one, they might just infiltrate Warriner. Start a union or something un-American like that.

This was a joke. I waited for an hour and didn't get to see Granholm. Instead of letting us in or having a good size venue for the event, they held it in a small room and jam packed it with democrats and their supporters on campus. I saw folks walking in UAW clothes. Why were they allowed in over students? This seems like it was a stuny by the Governor to get publicity and try and promote a political agenda.
