Hey, any show of resistance against this very unfair cancellation of The Promise Grant is a good thing. If the state can cancel a promise that they made to the kids that wanted to make something of themselves, that is a testament to NOT have faith in the govt. that makes promises to us. Investing in The Promise Grant seems like a better investment in the future then paying for all the welfare and I am fairly sure no cuts were made in that area. That girl’s presentation was Excellent and at least she is doing something positive while most of the whiners complain and/or do nothing. You young people need to mobilize and make yourselves heard on this issue and if you really care, find out how to become involved and then get involved!!!

Her own district of Northville voted against her 4-1, yet the intellectual college students and urban dwellers continue to eat her right up. There are now more Michigan government jobs than Manufacturing jobs.

Should we raise taxes when there is money to the fund promise scholarship in the budget? The right answer is no. Should we raise taxes when we are spending more than enough money to fund the Promise on an unnecessary police state headquarters building? The right answer is no. Should the governor use students as political tools to push for an agenda of corruption? The right answer is no.

While I agree the governor should have held this in a larger venue, the “no tax increase” whine from the GOP has grown terribly tedious. It’s their simplistic “solution” to everything from an ailing economy to the swine flu.

Like it or not, taxes to fund the Michigan Promise and similar programs are an investment in our future. Progressive business leaders look more closely at a state’s educational climate and commitment to its young people when deciding where to set up shop than at whether they’ll have to pay a few extra bucks in taxes.

I know is heresy to you right-wingers, but taxes are a minor inconvenience for a long-term payoff.

I arrived at auditorium about 15 minutes early and was able to easily find a place to stand and watch. The vast majority of students in and around the auditorium showed strong support for the promise.
