Real fans realize this game is important.

Thanks for the article, maybe you could have taken the positive approach and talked about how we need to go out and support this team and university. Nope. You probably have a good future at the Detroit Free Press.

This game is far from meaningless. This game is a important stepping stone to a bowl win! The team doesn't want to end this awesome season on a downer. The team wants to have as much momentum going into the post season as possible. The pro's will look at this game for the seniors that are leaving and that want to go to the next level. There are all kinds of reasons why this game is not meaningless. If you have played on any type of championship team from T-ball to the National Football League. You would understand that the word meaningless is never applicable to a championship team, no matter what the sport is!! I'm in So. California and drove to AZ for that game. Then, I flew back for Homecoming. So, what that means is, you better get your butt to the game, and support the team on Friday!

While the game may have lost its appeal insofar as the "winner-takes-the-West" storyline, I'd submit that the game still has very important ramifications where CMU's goal of breaking the Top 25 is concerned. A golden opportunity was derailed against Boston College, and it would seem the only conceivable way for Central to regain leverage in its quest for national prominence would be to win out...which includes beating Northern Illinois this Friday.

And for what it's worth, if the Chippewas are able to beat NIU, win the Mid-American Conference championship AND bring home a trophy from a bowl game, the voters would be hard-pressed to NOT put Central in the Top 25.

On top of that, I hope fans recognize this is the last chance to see the best quarterback in CMU history take snaps at Kelly / Shorts. (Move over, Gary Hogeboom...there's a new king in Mount Pleasant!) Chances are the next time you see him on campus, it'll be for an induction on Hall Of Fame Day, or for a retirement of jersey No. 13.
