Sports Update: Wrestling perfect at duals

The CMU wrestling team swept through Northeast Duals with four consecutive wins Saturday.

The Chippewas defeated American, Virginia, Maryland and Bloomsburg in dual matches that were scheduled without a break in between.

“I felt like we put our guys in a really tough situation and they came through for us today,” said coach Tom Borrelli. “We wrestled four duals against teams that only wrestled three, and most of them had a break before they wrestled us. But we had a great performance.”

Sophomore 133-pounder Scotti Sentes dominated his opponents with an 8-0 major decision in the first match and pins in the next three matches. Sentes faced one ranked opponent and earned a fall in 2:19 against No. 7 Steve Bell from Maryland.

Senior 125-pounder Matt Steintrager has made a convincing case for the starting position as he scored wins against two ranked opponents. Steintrager defeated No. 18 Jason Borshoff from American with a 4-1 decision.

“Today was a good preparation for tournament wrestling,” Borrelli said. “We wrestled without a break and that is what we will see in most national tournaments.”
