Actor Danny Glover will be coming to Central Michigan University as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Week keynote speaker, according to an e-mail sent Friday evening by the Office of Student Life to E-board members of RSOs.

Glover will speak at 7 p.m. Jan 19 in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium. Minority Student Services will bring Glover who will come to discuss the work of Langston Hughes and Martin Luther King Jr.

“The evening begins with Justice’s critically acclaimed portrayal of Dr. King and Glover will bring to life the words and poetry of Langston Hughes,” according to the e-mail message, which was submitted by Minority Student Services administrative secretary Jeanette Smith.

Glover is well known for being in “The Color Purple” as well “The Lethal Weapon” series. He also played the President of the United States in the recent movie “2012.”

My dad hates Danny Glover, I on the other hand, do not. As long as he says “Riggs!” at last one time I am OK with him coming.

I look forward to hearing what Mr. Glover has to say. I recently became aware of his involvement in human rights issues when I watched “At The End of Slavery” (http://www.attheendofslavery.com/), which he narrated. The film is an impressive call to action and I’m glad he lent his voice to it.

How much is this costing taxpayers? I hope CM Life asks.

Glover seems a fine choice for the event, but I agree with John M that CM Life should be asking the cost of his appearance. It routinely asks the cost of Speakers Series events, so the same standard should apply here.
