Women’s basketball loses at Akron
The CMU women’s basketball team lost its 11th game away from Rose Arena Thursday, losing 62-55 against Akron in front of 427 at Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio.
With the loss, CMU is now 8-13 overall and 5-4 in the Mid-American Conference and moves back into third place in the West Division, two games behind leader Toledo.
Toledo lost to Kent State on Wednesday and win would have put the Chippewas one game back of first place.
Missed layups and poor shooting from the start – 30 percent for the game – put CMU behind and unable to sustain any momentum after trailing 28-25 at halftime.
Akron shot 46.3 percent from the floor for the game.
“It was just a very frustrating evening tonight,” said coach Sue Guevara.
Junior guard Shonda Long led CMU in scoring with 17 points.
Kara Murphy had 17 points for the Zips (13-9, 7-2 MAC).
CMU continues its road trip at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buffalo, who are coming off a 78-65 loss against Eastern Michigan.
“We have to see how resilient we are,” Guevara said. “We’ve got a day to get ready, and that’s OK.”
