Club lacrosse team opens season

The CMU men’s club lacrosse team hosts Ferris State to start its spring season in a rematch of an October scrimmage between the two teams.

Senior defenseman Andrew Tillman said he expects to see some different looks from Ferris State than in the scrimmage when the teams meet at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Indoor Athletic Complex.

“We expect them to show us some formations they did not show us in the fall,” said senior defenseman Andrew Tillman. “We plan on stopping them by playing the game we want to play and not letting Ferris control the tempo.”

CMU is led by its captains — Tillman, senior defenseman Chuck Vierk, junior midfielder Brad Dickerson and junior goalie James Latini.

Junior defenseman Joe Miceli said the team’s goals for this year go off of previous success.

“We have made the (Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association) playoffs the past three years and want to make them again,” he said.

Tillman said the team is more balanced since younger players gained experience.

“The team’s strength is usually the defense, but with the players on the offensive side of the ball having a year played under their belt, they are expecting to score lots of goals,” he said.

Friday is one of two games CMU hosts this season; the team has 10 road games.

“It is hard playing on the road all the time but, on long road trips, it allows the team to bond and create chemistry with one another, and we really play our best lacrosse after theses trips,” Miceli said.
