Club lacrosse team prepares for first road game
The CMU club lacrosse team looks to continue its winning ways as it heads into its first road game of the season at noon Saturday against Adrian.
“Adrian is a good team — a Division-III team that is allowed to recruit, which means that they are going to have some good players that are capable of playing into their system,” said senior defenseman Chuck Vierk. “We can’t have as many penalties as we did in the last game because this cuts down on our offensive sets, as well as wearing our defense down.”
Despite being on the road, Vierk said the team has to dictate the speed of the game to have success.
“We take the same approach going into each game and keeping our type of tempo and really focusing on playing our game,” Vierk said. “We can’t allow Adrian to dictate the tempo to their style of play.”
CMU is coming off a 21-6 win on Friday against Ferris State, which began the 2010 season.
Defenseman Joe Miceli said the team is determined to limit the amount of penalties taken from the first game to the second.
“We can’t afford to have as many penalties as we had,” Miceli said. “Good teams will be able to take advantage of playing man up for so long.”
Senior defenseman Andrew Tillman said the team has worked to fine-tune its defensive game.
“There are always things to improve on. I believe that even though we only allowed six goals, defensively, we are not quite there yet,” he said.
