LIFE IN BRIEF: SGA president, vice president deadline this Friday

SGA deadline

Candidate identity forms for the Student Government Association are due this Friday. Students interested in running for a position in SGA’s executive council must fill the forms by the deadline. Campaigning for treasurer, vice president and president positions begins March 15, with elections during the week of April 5. Press Secretary, Membership Officer, House Leader, Senate Leader, Executive Secretary, and Historian also are available positions on the executive council. Once a new executive council is elected, committee chairperson positions will become available. Election documents are available on the SGA Web site atsga.cmich.edu. They can be turned in to the SGA mailbox in the Student Organization Center in the Bovee University Center.

Leadership Institute

An open meeting on how to prevent the Leadership Institute from closing takes place from 9 to 10 p.m. today at the Bovee University Center Auditorium. Those interested also can check the current progress of the campaign and make suggestions for budget cuts to the Senior Staff Budget Advisory Group by visiting the Web site, https://ssl.cmich.edu/ssbag.

Call of Duty tournament

The Snowball Express charity organization will benefit the children of deceased soldiers through a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 tournament. The event takes place from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. today at O’Kelly’s Bar and Grill, 2000 S. Mission St. It includes a variety of raffles such as the grand prize of a Penthouse Suite at the Palace of Auburn Hills for the April 2 Detroit Pistons game, along with 12 tickets and 2 parking passes. Each team that registers to play in the tournament will be charged $20, and only the first 20 teams will be accepted.

Eating contest

An eating contest takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Buffalo Wild Wings, 1904 S. Mission St. Each competing team consists of two people and each member will eat specific food in a certain order. The first team member will eat wings followed by ice cream, the second member will eat a half package of crackers and powdered donuts. The event is limited to 20 teams. Attendees can participate in raffles for various prizes, with all proceeds going to the Isabella County Soup Kitchen.

Film screening

The Wesley Foundation hosts a screening of the Paul Newman movie “Cool Hand Luke” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 1400 Washington St. Admission is free and includes popcorn.

Man arrested for sexual conduct

A 53-year-old male was arrested by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department Monday on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person younger than 13 years of age and domestic violence. The arrest was made at a residence on South Crawford Road in Lincoln Township.
