BREAKING: Ernest Yoder names College of Medicine founding dean

Central Michigan University named Dr. Ernest Yoder as founding dean for the College of Medicine today.

Yoder has served as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, is the vice chairman of medical education and research for St. John Health and Ascension Health in Michigan and works as a clinical professor at Wayne State University in Detroit.

“I am honored to join the team of dedicated professionals who have worked diligently over the past years to bring this vision to a reality,” Yoder said in a press release. “I look forward to working with the university community and with the citizens and leaders in central and northern Michigan communities.”

Yoder will make a base pay of $385,000 plus deferred compensation, with an opportunity to earn up to $150,000 in incentives.

    Considering the 1995 Institute of Medicine suggestion that ALL levels of medical education include in them a special focus and competency track for ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE TOPICS, the perfect opportu nity now exists at CMU-CHM to incorporate those topics into its developing curriculum….One need only look around the State to see evidence of that need in its 85+ SUPERFUND sites plus others that include dioxin contaminated soils, recent Enbridge Oil Spill , increasing radiation levels and garden soils contaminated with lead and arsenic to see the wisdom of such a training focus……………
