Softball team sweeps Saturday doubleheader
The CMU softball team won its fifth and sixth game in its last seven Saturday at the IU Classic in Bloomington, Ind..
It beat SIU-Edwardsville 9-3 and host Indiana 3-2.
The Chippewas beat Edwardsville for the second time this season, after winning 15-0 on Feb. 21 for their first win of the season.
The second game of the day featured a pitching duo, as CMU was held scoreless against the Hoosiers until the fifth inning.
CMU freshman pitcher Kara Dornbos pitched a complete game, giving up two runs, one earned, on eight hits, while walking one batter.
Offensively, senior outfielder Christina Novak went 2-for-4 and scored a run. The team had eight hits.
Sophomore utility infielder Ashley Gilson chipped in with a key pinch-hit single in the 6th inning, scoring two runners to take the lead, 3-2.
Indiana left one runner on base in the bottom of the 6th, giving CMU (9-7) the victory.
Game 1
The team was led in the first game by Novak, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Sophomore shortstop Molly Coldren had two RBIs.
Junior Kari Seddon pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on three hits, and struck out eight batters, earning her fifth win (5-3).
