LeFevour has mixed results in passing drills; Brown runs sub-4.5 40-yard dash

Former CMU quarterback Dan LeFevour and wide receiver Antonio Brown got their time to shine with 28 pro scouts and several members of the local media in attendance for Wednesday morning’s CMU Pro Day at the Indoor Athletic Complex.

Electing not to throw to receivers at February’s NFL Scouting Combine, LeFevour went through a series of passing sequences ranging from 10 to 50 yards to CMU teammates Bryan Anderson, Frank Zombo (playing tight end), Brown and Wayne State running back Joique Bell.

While having minimal issues with short-distance throws, timing and inconsistency started to show with the deep ball. Several times, Anderson and Brown had to slow down to catch LeFevour’s underthrown passes.

“I don’t think I hurt myself at all today, but I can say that I looked better two days ago,” LeFevour said. “It still was all right — it was a positive, for sure.”

Brown, a junior who decided to enter the NFL Draft after CMU’s 44-41 win against Troy in the GMAC Bowl on Jan. 6, ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.47 seconds. He has received interest from several NFL teams, including a quick workout with the Miami Dolphins catching punts after the official workouts were complete.

“It went really well for me,” Brown said. “I ran some great routes and I had a chance to run my 40, and I think I improved. I think I really showed my elusiveness and, to have the scouts see me up close, I think they were really impressed.”

Notes

Seniors Eric Fraser, Frank Zombo, Larry Knight, Kirkston Edwards, Josh Gordy, Allen Ollenburger and Andrew Aguila took part in the workouts as well. Pacino Horne, who played his last year at CMU in 2006, also worked out, along with Wayne State’s Bell.

Gordy was believed to have run the fastest 40-time, while Zombo, working out as a defensive end and linebacker, posted unofficial 40-times of 4.7 and 4.74.

Former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis, now an offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs, was in attendance to evaluate LeFevour.
