LeFevour signs 4-year contract with Bears

Former Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour signed a four-year contract with the Chicago Bears Thursday, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Terms of the deal were not released.

The 6-foot-3, 230 pound LeFevour was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round (181st overall) of this year’s NFL Draft, a departure from many experts who predicted he would go in the third or fourth round. He has since reported to rookie camp and, now signed, will soon begin Bears mini-camp.

The Bears released former Northwestern quarterback Brett Basanez on Wednesday, leaving starter Jay Cutler, backup Caleb Hanie (Colorado State) and LeFevour as the only quarterbacks currently on the roster.

While at CMU, LeFevour amassed a 35-16 record in games he started. He was named MAC Freshman of the Year in 2006 while leading the Chippewas to a 31-14 win against Middle Tennessee State in the former Motor City Bowl, in which he was named Bowl MVP.

He led CMU to a 44-41 double overtime win against Troy in the GMAC Bowl on Jan. 6 in Mobile, Ala.

LeFevour leads the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision in total touchdowns (150) and is second in total yards (15,853). He holds Mid-American Conference records for total offense, passing yards, touchdown passes, completions and attempts.

With time he'll pry Jay Cutler out of the starting quarterback job. Cutler ain't that good. He led the NFL in interceptions in 2009 with 26. 26!!!!! That's six more than that next most horrible QB. Lefevour is known for protecting the ball.

Cutler won`t last with Lefevour in the mix.
