Oesterle tabbed as new assistant coach for women’s basketball team
Sue Guevara has found her match.
Heather Oesterle was named the new assistant coach of the Central Michigan women’s basketball team on Thursday, ending a two-week search to replace former assistant Bill Ferrara.
Central Michigan Life first reported on May 26 Ferrara left the team to take an assistant position at Hofstra.
Oesterle comes to CMU after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach under Carol Owens at Northern Illinois. Owens stepped down on April 29, opening the door for Oesterle to make the move.
While at NIU, Oesterle served as recruiting coordinator and played a major role in developing the offense, duties Ferrara held during his time in Mount Pleasant.
Prior to time with the Huskies, she was as an assistant at Miami (OH) for four seasons, winning a Mid-American Conference championship in 2003 and 2008.
The Mason, Mich., native played under Guevara at Michigan and was named team captain during her senior season in 2001-2002. She currently holds the Mason High School career scoring record with 1,451 points.
