A 23-year-old Texas man allegedly tried to kill a Mount Pleasant man by running him down with a vehicle Tuesday morning.

Brandon Lovell Goodwin is currently lodged in Isabella County Jail and is charged with assault with intent to murder and operating while intoxicated causing serious injury. His bond is $500,000.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a hit and run injury at about 2:04 a.m. in the parking lot of Aaron’s Carpet, 601 N. Mission Street.

Jeffrey Edward Dodge, the 23-year-old victim, suffered serious head injuries and a large abrasion on his back.

An investigation revealed Goodwin intentionally hit the victim with his vehicle, according to police. He was arrested after fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred after the victim and two friends were at the Green Spot Pub, 808 N. Mission Street, according to police.

Police said Goodwin and a friend went into the bar but both were drunk and the bartender told them to leave.

They kept trying to get into the bar, so one of the victim’s friends told them to leave.

Goodwin threatened the bartender and the victim’s friend and then left in a black Blazer-type vehicle, according to Goodwin’s arrest warrant. The bartender said she believed Goodwin’s friend was a passenger.

The victim and his friends left on foot shortly after Goodwin did.

The victim’s friend, who Goodwin had threatened, said a dark SUV tried to run them over, making multiple attempts until finally striking Dodge.

Dodge was transported to Central Michigan Community Hospital and is currently at Saint Mary’s Michigan Medical Center in Saginaw. He was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon.

Attempted murder carries a penalty of up to life in prison and operating while intoxicated causing serious injury is a five-year felony.

The Tribal Police and Mobile Medical Response, Inc. assisted the MPPD in the investigation.

Where does it say the victim spoke to Goodwin?

The article states that a person your brother was with had asked Goodwin to leave, and that this person was threatened, then later when they were walking home the group was the target.

My son was the other person hit by this idiot! My prayers go out to Jeff and his family. I hope they throw the book at Brandon Goodwin and lock him up for a long! He obvious has violent tendancies as he was already out on bond for aggravated assault. One thing if you hit someone with your vehicle, accidents are just that, but to deliberately run people over……what is this world coming too. God Bless Jeff and his family.
