BLOG: CMU to begin season unranked in USA Today preseason coaches’ poll
If the Central Michigan football team wants respect this season, they’re going to have to work for it.
After finishing last season ranked in the Top 25 for the first time in school history, CMU came up short in the USA Today preseason coaches’ poll released today.
The Chippewas, along with fellow Mid-American Conference West Division opponent Northern Illinois, garnered one vote in the poll. NIU was picked by the media last week at the MAC Football Preview in Detroit to win the West Division.
Temple finished slightly ahead of both teams, receiving two votes. The Owls were predicted by the media to win the East Division and MAC Championship game in December.
CMU finished 23rd in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and 24th in the coaches’ poll after beating Troy 44-41 in double overtime in the GMAC Bowl on Jan. 6.
The team kicks off the 2010 season Sept. 2 against Hampton at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
