A member of the Central Michigan football team will spend the beginning of the season on the sidelines.
Redshirt freshman running back Zurlon Tipton has been suspended two games by head coach Dan Enos for a violation of team rules. Specifics on the violations were not made immediately available.
“Student-athletes at Central Michigan University are held to the highest expectation of accountability and responsibility,” Enos said in a statement released Wednesday evening. “We will continually evaluate Zurlon’s contributions to the CMU football program in the community, in the classroom and on the playing field.”
Tipton will miss the Sept. 2 home opener against Hampton and CMU’s Sept. 9 game at Temple. He has been participating in preseason camp and will continue to take part in practices and team activities during the suspension.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Detroit native was recruited in 2008 from Parkway Christian High School (Sterling Heights) by former head coach Butch Jones. Tipton played in one game in 2009 – CMU’s 48-0 win against Alcorn State – before missing the rest of the season due to injury.
