BLOG: LeFevour, Brown to see extended playing time this weekend in NFL exhibition games

Central Michigan’s most prolific quarterback-wide receiver tandem in history is expected to receive some playing time as the NFL exhibition season kicks off this weekend.

Former CMU quarterback Dan LeFevour will get some snaps in the Chicago Bears’ exhibition game Saturday at San Diego, the Chicago Tribune reports.

LeFevour got his first set of extended of reps this week, including Monday when Bears coaching staff gave starting quarterback Jay Cutler the day off.

“You’ve just got to do as much as you can with what you get,” Lefevour told the media on Monday. “During OTAs, a lot of that stuff was brand new. So mechanically I was still trying to work on that stuff.”

He currently sits third on Chicago’s quarterback depth chart, behind Cutler and backup Caleb Hanie.

Brown to ‘get more than he bargained for’

Wide receiver Antonio Brown will get an extended look in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ exhibition opener Saturday against Detroit.

Head coach Mike Tomlin told the media Thursday that Brown and fellow rookie receiver Emmanuel Sanders could play up to 30-35 snaps at the wide receiver position.

“Those guys are going to play a bunch of snaps; they’re going to get more than they bargained for Saturday night,” Tomlin said.

Brown, CMU’s all-time leader in receptions, will also get an opportunity to return punts in the game, the AP reports.
