Benefit concert raises money for area hospitals, veterans with rock star tributes
Singing along, clapping, talking, air-instrumentals and laughing — all were parts of a Sunday evening at a concert with a cause.
Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, 6800 Soaring Eagle Blvd, hosted their 11th annual Summer Dance Party Sunday. This year’s show featured Paul Revere & the Raiders and tributes to Cher, Rod Stewart, Todd Jones, The Bee Gees, Abba and Roy Orbison.
The concert doubled as a fundraiser for Central Michigan Community Hospital, 1221 South Dr., Carson City Hospital, Sparrow Clinton Hospital in St. Johns, Sheridan Community Hospital in Sheridan, and the Sparrow Foundation-Children’s Miracle Network in Lansing.
“On top of all of the other benefits, all of Paul Revere’s proceeds from the merchandise sold will benefit American veterans in need,” said Bruce Traverse, president and CEO of Carson City Hospital.
Much of the audience seemed excited to help out the cause of the event by listening to hit music from older times.
Andrea Brunet, as Cher, opened up the concert with classic songs such as “Believe,” and “If I Could Turn Back Time,” while the audience sang along.
During Dave Battah’s costumed Rod Stewart tribute, several in attendance made their way to the dance floor located next to the stage and danced to the music.
Battah returned the favor, walking up and down the aisles and singing and dancing with his audience.
