UPDATE: No suspect arrested after assault outside of EHS Building Thursday

No suspect has been arrested in an unprovoked assault of an 18-year-old female Thursday night.

The assault happened about 8 p.m. on the north side of the Education and Human Services Building. The victim was leaving the building when the incident occurred.

“We had a female walking alone, and a subject jumped out from behind her and grabbed her to kiss her, from what it appeared,” said CMU Police Chief Bill Yeagley. “He took off running.”

Yeagley said the victim was able to push the suspect before he fled. The victim was not injured, said Sgt. Mike Morrow.

The motive for the assault is still unknown and police are looking for eyewitnesses to aid their investigation.

“At this point, we don’t know where the suspect was or the victim was prior to the attack,” Morrow said. “We do not have a clear motive right now.”

The male suspect was described as approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a dark- colored, hooded sweatshirt. His race is unknown.

The Central Alert System began sending out calls to campus at 10 p.m., alerting students of the incident.

If anyone has any information on the incident, they are asked to call the CMU dispatch line at 774-3081 or the tip line at 774-1874.
