Mount Pleasant business receives tax abatement
Q-SAGE, a seed and grain equipment specialist will receive a 50 percent tax abatement for improvements made to their site.
The local company received approval for the improvements at 2150 JBS Trail and new manufacturing equipment at the same site at Monday night’s Mount Pleasant City Commission meeting.
“In our mind the most important part of a tax abatements is equipment,” Q-SAGE President Tim Throop said.
The company has had to turn away business because they are growing so rapidly, but do not have all the necessary equipment, such as a crane. A tax abatement would help solve this problem.
Mayor Jim Holton and Vice Mayor Bruce Kilmer both commended the business.
“I’m proud that you are here in our community,” Holton said.

A public hearing for the 2011 budget will be held on Nov. 22, where the public can address the commission with questions, concerns, or comments about the proposed budget.
The commissioners also approved changes to the Purchasing Policy for employees.
In March of 2010, the City Commission authorized a pilot program for the use of purchasing cards for small dollar purchases in an effort to provide efficiency in the purchasing process. This will eliminate many in-store credit accounts, provide additional detail in the accounting system and provide additional detail to the City Commission on where credit card purchases are made.
“I think making this change and using this change is a good policy,” said Commissioner Kathy Ling. “It’s helpful to have the information that is on the check registry.”
