BLOG: ESPN’s Andy Katz says Zeigler ‘worth gulping down Red Bull for’
In his primer for ESPN’s 24-hour Tip-Off Marathon set to begin tonight at midnight, college basketball writer Andy Katz gives more praise for Central Michigan freshman Trey Zeigler.
Katz answers 20 questions — essentially a reason to watch almost every game on the network — and says staying up late to watch Zeigler play in CMU’s 4 a.m. game Tuesday against Hawaii is “worth gulping down Red Bull for.”
“One freshman won’t get much airtime this weekend, but you’d better stay up late or get up early,” Katz writes. “Central Michigan’s Trey Zeigler scored 21 points in a loss to Montana State in Honolulu this past weekend. Six-foot-5 Zeigler was a top-50 recruit and is expected to be a star for the Chippewas, so you might want to fight the urge to sleep and watch his game at Hawaii (4 a.m., ESPN).”
The Chippewas are 1-1 after dropping a 65-58 overtime loss to Montana State on Sunday in their second game of the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Zeigler had 11 points and eight rebounds while making the game-winning assist to senior forward Jalin Thomas, whose three-point buzzer-beater gave CMU a 70-67 win Friday against Cal State Fullerton in its first game of the tournament.
