His House Women’s House raises money for young girls Christmas presents through pancake dinner
Pancake dinners can generate more good feelings than a sugar high.
Students at the New Hope pancake dinner Thursday night were eating for a cause. New Hope is a non-profit organization that takes care of young teens, there are nine girls living there and three of their children, said Midland senior Erica Wylie.
“We are the only family they have,” said Erica. “We try to teach them values of life and how to be good mothers and provide them with support.”
New Hope provides special services to teens who are pregnant or may need other emotional support, Wylie said. New Hope provides the girls with counseling each week and gives them the opportunity to participate in activities they might not have the ability to otherwise.
New Hope Supervisor Jen Compau said the girls probably would not get presents without fundraisers like this one and other donations.
“We have been seeking out private donations from businesses to help raise money also,“ Compau said.
The dinner was at the His House Women’s House, 1012 S. University. Many of the attendees go to church together.
“I came for the pancakes and I donated two dollars, “ said Grand Rapids freshman Josh Sinclair. “Pancakes were awesome and it was a great night.”
Attendees like Sinclair were treated to blueberry, chocolate chip and plain pancakes, toppings and orange juice.
