BLOG: Praise for Guevara’s ’11 recruiting class continues

The Central Michigan women’s basketball program continues to receive accolades for its 2011 recruiting class.

ESPN.com’s HoopGurlz recruiting site ranks head coach Sue Guevara’s incoming class 43rd in the country, the highest of any Michigan school.

A major part of it has to do with the recent signed letter of intent from highly-regarded Inkster guard Crystal Bradford.

The first-team all-state guard turned down top-tier schools Michigan State, Louisville, Auburn and West Virginia to become a Chippewa.

It may have something to do with the choice of her high school teammates.

Before landing Bradford, CMU landed her Inkster teammates Jas’Mine Bracey and Leah Scott.

“All of them are versatile and know how to win,” Guevara said.

The three teammates from Inkster are expected to come in and compete for time. Guevara believes the program is building and moving toward the future.

Those three will join an already talented nucleus of forwards Brandie Baker, Taylor Johnson and guards Skylar Miller and Niki DiGuilio.

As for Bradford, Guevara said she can be a “program changer.” The Detroit News recently ranked her as the best player in the state.

“Crystal is electrifying,” she said. “She’s a lefty with range and can see the floor.”

The Chippewas appear to be over-loaded with talent, but only five starting spots. It appears to be a good problem for Guevara in 2011.

“You’re only as good as your bench and they are going to come in and compete for time,” she said. “It makes us deeper when they come in next year.”
