Long fourth consecutive women’s player to earn MAC West Player of the Week honors
Central Michigan senior guard Shonda Long was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Monday.
Long led CMU (6-2) to winning the Aces Classic tournament over the weekend in Evansville, Ind., while also earning Most Valuable Player honors.
In those two games, she averaged 23.5 points per game and shot 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from beyond the three-point arc. She also boosted her rebounding total to almost four a game after tying for the team lead with eight against Coastal Carolina Friday in the first round of the tournament.
Long is the fourth consecutive Chippewas player to earn MAC West Division Player of the Week honors. Senior forward Kaihla Szunko received the award last week, while freshman Taylor Johnson and sophomore Brandie Baker took the honors during during consecutive weeks prior.
