Faculty Association reaches job action decision, announcements forthcoming

Laura Frey, president of the Faculty Association and associate professor in counseling and special education, speaks to a crowd of FA members, students and other supporters before July's CMU Board of Trustees meeting outside of Bovee University Center. "We are working without contract," Frey said.

The Central Michigan University Faculty Association reached a decision on potential job action, but representatives will not be available to discuss it until around 9 p.m.

The FA met to vote on the action it will take regarding the ongoing contract dispute with CMU, as well as other issues, Monday evening at the Comfort Inn and Suites, 2424 S. Mission St.

At least 500 attendees were expected for the meeting and the room had a capacity of 600 persons, according to the hotel’s front desk.

Several CMU officials released statements earlier that day confirming classes will start as scheduled on Aug. 22 despite the dispute.

Oh please. If the faculty were for students, then they wouldn’t be holding out for wages they don’t deserve.

I am interested to see the outcome of this actually. Unfortunately, many institutions barely have enough funding to have essential student programming and services. If faculty members think they are underpaid–they should look at the student services/student life staff salaries AND the hours they work.
