A bicyclist was injured Tuesday at about noon on East Campus Drive near the south end of Lot 33.

A 2005 Chevy Aveo heading northbound hit the bicyclist in the crosswalk, said Sgt. Trent Case of the Central Michigan University Police.

“When the Aveo was approaching, the driver just assumed the vehicle turning left was just idling,” he said. “They didn’t know that vehicle was waiting for the bicyclist to cross.”

The Aveo should have slowed down and yielded, but didn’t, he said.

The bicyclist had minor injuries and was transported to Central Michigan University Hospital, where he was later released.

“It could’ve been more serious,” Case said. “The driver of the Aveao was cited for failure to yield.”
