CMU soccer loses 1-0 to WMU
The Western Michigan women’s soccer team had an extra incentive to defeat the Chippewas after Central Michigan eliminated them in the Mid-American conference Tournament last season.
This time it was different.
The Broncos (8-7, 4-3 MAC) beat CMU 1-0 on Friday night.
Despite carrying the play for most of the game, CMU (10-2-3, 4-1-2 MAC) could not find the back of the net.
“We dominated the game,” said head coach Neil Stafford. “But when you get people within the six-yard box and not finishing their chances, it’s just really frustrating.”
WMU junior Brittney Pavlica scored the winner in the 33rd minute of the first half after one-timing a long ball behind CMU goalkeeper Stefanie Turner.
The Chippewas had numerous opportunities to tie the game, but could not score the equalizer.
“I am happy with how we played,” Stafford said. “But we just have to finish.”
