Two structure fires over weekend, arson likely cause in one case
The Mount Pleasant Fire Department handled two fires this weekend, one of which is believed to be a targeted arson attack.
The Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to the structure fire of a vacant, two-story building at 4:03 a.m Saturday. Three fire engines, a rescue truck, a ladder truck, and several support vehicles brought down the fire at 411 E. Broadway St. Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke conditions extending from the second floor.
The fire was brought down and under control by 30 firefighters at 5:12 a.m.
According to a press release from the Mount Pleasant Fire Department the cause of the fire is thought to be an intentional arson.
The Mount Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Red Cross and the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department.
The Mount Pleasant Fire Department also responded to a structure fire at 9:38 a.m. Friday at 1260 Beacon Hill Court. The fire department put out the fire with the help of three fire engines, a water tender, a rescue truck and several support vehicles. Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke conditions when they arrived on the scene.
The fire was brought down and under control by 30 firefighters at about 10 a.m.
After conducting an investigation, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department said in a press release the cause was an accident in nature. At the time of the fire, one occupant was in the building.
The Mount Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Red Cross and the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department.
