A sketch has been released of the man who attempted to abduct an 18-year-old woman last Friday.

The incident took place at about 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 14 near 1100 Crapo St. in Mount Pleasant. The suspect is described as either hispanic or native american in his 20s to 30s with black, curly hair, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds.

Public Information Officer Jeff Browne of Mount Pleasant Police said the attempted abduction started when a male came up and approached the woman to ask a question. The suspect then began to follow her for a short while, he said.

The girl told the suspect to stop following her or she was going to punch him. She then pulled out her phone and began to call for the police, Browne said.

The suspect left for a short period of time before coming back out of nowhere, where he talked to her about getting into his vehicle for a ride. She said no and continued to walk, then he got out of the vehicle and attempted to grab her with both arms. She broke free and was able to get away from him to a residence where she called the police.

“It’s pretty unusual for this area for something like this to happen,” Browne said. “It’s a bit out of place for us.”

The vehicle is described as a red, single-cab, older model pickup truck, with bigger tires and possibly a yellow sticker in the back passenger-side window.
