COLUMN: Harold Camping is world’s worst prophet
By David Oltean on October 24, 2011 8:45 am / 145 comments
For Harold Camping, Friday’s rapture wasn’t exactly what he expected.
As far as I know, God’s wrath didn’t destroy the universe entirely.
Camping’s predictions for the apocalypse may not have brought death and destruction to the world, but rather to his career and the legitimacy of Family Radio, Camping’s radio network.
I can’t possibly fathom how individuals of any faith could manage to take Camping or his organization seriously after the four failed predictions by the 90-year-old Christian broadcaster, whose math skills may have dwindled with age when it comes to predicting apocalypses.
Camping’s lunacy first became evident in 1988, when he first predicted that the world would be engulfed in chaos.
If I, for one, were ever to predict the destruction of the world as we know it, I’d be awfully ashamed if it turned out to be untrue.
But one strike didn’t stop Camping, or his second failed prediction in 1994 or the supposed apocalypse earlier this year on May 21, which received significant attention.
After the prediction for an apocalypse this past Friday, I don’t understand how Camping isn’t ashamed of himself for his never-ending nonsense.
The real shame is the man has had Family Radio at his fingertips to advocate his ideas, because without the medium, his predictions would seem more like senility in his old age. The only thing that sets him apart from your average homeless apocalypse prophet seems to be his radio station, and the millions of dollars available to post warnings of the Rapture on thousands of billboards throughout America.
The troubling part with Camping’s predictions is that individuals have actually taken this mad prophet seriously in the past, and several suicides and deaths resulted from his prediction in May.
Yet despite the multiple deaths caused by the prediction earlier this year, Camping continued to work on his math for the date of the rapture as if he simply botched the equation, which deals with numbers that symbolize atonement, completeness and heaven; variables that any mathematician could approve of.
Camping justified his latest prediction on the Family Radio YouTube video for Friday’s apocalypse, citing the May 21 prediction as the beginning of a five-month judgment period.
“Indeed, on May 21 Christ did come spiritually to put all of the unsaved throughout the world into judgment. But that universal judgment will not be physically seen until the last day of the five-month judgment period, on October 21, 2011,” the description said.
The only judgment that should have been made in the past five months is that this old man is completely off his rocker.
Hopefully, we’ll only have to endure the 2012 Mayan calendar’s supposed prediction of the end of the world once.

I just read that he attacked a bunch of plankers on Oct 21st, whom he thought were mocking him or something, lol.

That was actually a joke article.

He was wrong on May 21 so he said that it actually happened spiritually. He was wrong on October 21 and so his followers changed it to October 22. October 22 proved wrong, and so now they are saying that October 21 is a, “season,” and not a day — which means ANY date can be claimed going forward. A polite, “We were wrong,” would have been sufficient. Or better yet, stop making these stupid and unbiblical predictions to begin with.
Gets you facts straight! I can’t take YOU seriously either because Camping predicted the end of the world only 3 not 4 times. You are as inaccurate as he is and more so because you only have to look up the history which you did not bother to do!
Wow, you’re wound a little to tight Mr. West… Are you saying that Friday’s prediction is still the same carryover from May 21? Either way, the guy is a quack, as are you for being so attached to something like this.
1988, 1994, May 2011, October 2011. 4 times.
“Camping predicted the end of the world only 3 not 4 times.”
Do you realize how absurd this sounds?
“You are as inaccurate as he is…”
Yeah… the entire universe going into melt-down mode vs. an inconsequential oversight.
That’s where you should have done your research he Predicted the world would end may 21 1988 Sept 6 1994 may 21 2011 and Oct 21 2011 maybe you should do a little reading before you try to call someone out

Are you serious?
The difference between 3 and 4? Really? He’s still a complete nut job. And by the sounds of it, so are you.

Why, it’s absolutely outrageous! 3 times, not 4? How can this journalist LIVE with himself!?! Ill-researched articles are the scourge of the modern era. I suspect David Oltean has been invisibly judged, the results of which will not become apparent until exactly five months from now.

frank, he didnt say he predicted the apocalypse four times, he said he made four failed predictions. the first prediction was in 1988, when he predicted the world would be engulfed in chaos. i know, it helps to think. especially before you speak

Will everyone just TRY to get along…

lol there were no “suicides and deaths” associated with the May 21st hysteria
A mother attempted to kill herself and her two children, but she didn’t succeed.

I bet Camping won`t give up predicting the end of the world, He`ll probably say that he reviewed his work and found that he made an error in his calculations and was off by one year on his prediction and therefore the rapture will be on Oct 21, 2012.. I guarantee he will pull another stunt like this again and the sad part is there will be some people stupid enough to fall for it, But probably not too many

David, You will meet Jesus when you die – regardless of Harold Camping’s silliness. You ready?
no he won’t
actually no you wont. The fool above me is just another brainwashed delusional fool too
Dude, the same silliness with which you view Camping, everyone else in the world views you. The “Jesus is coming” line is as ridiculous as the “hidden imam in the clouds”.

Or he might meet Kratos (if he’s a gamer).

Are you sure its Jesus, and not some other invisible omnipotent deity like Allah or Cthulhu? I think there is about 2 billion Chinese that believe differently. I guess my question for you Sam is…Are you ready? Because if you were raised in China or somewhere else your convictions would differ. When you die your dead.
Sorry to disappoint the skeptics, but it did happen… it’s just that nobody was found worthy so everyone has to continue to toil endlessly until, well, until next time. Now go back to work!
the odd thing about all of the predictions of the apacolypse is that the hebrew bible refers to the coming of christ as a mystery and states tht no man knows the time or the coming of christ. This makes every possible prediction non-credible. We as humans need to stop longing for the ends in death and begin living in the now.

At least Mr. Camping’s claims can be tested. Most religious claims cannot.

All I know is that Harold Camping is in some SERIOUS trouble with God. What a piece of shit.
lol no he isnt
Mr. Camping and his followers might want to take a look at what the Bible states is punishment for false prophets…
like it actually matters
Matthew 24:36 “But of that DAY and HOUR, NO MAN, NOT the ANGELS of heaven, BUT my Father only. (In red).”

Matthew 24:36 “But of that DAY and HOUR, NO MAN, NOT the ANGELS of heaven, BUT my Father only. (In red).”
I am sorry to say this, but what is idiotic here here is not that a date was specified but that people believe that the world will end with a magic man will come out of the sky doling rewards and punishment. I don’t see any difference between Camping and the millions of Americans (and non Americans too) that believe in this bullshit.
I know about that. However, I am quite curious about the Mayan LongCount calendar date coming up next December. They were pretty darn accurate on atronomy with NO modern toys. Maybe not world destruction ……some kind of ‘enlightenment’? Whataver that means.
maybe the calendar just ends and the nuts are just nuts, same as it ever was

best response to Harold Camping EVER!
Harold camping made his predictions from calculating numbers he got out of a man made book of fairy-tales. Why would any one be surprised that nothing happened. I don’t felt sorry for the idiots that gave him money. If your ignorant enough to give him money, you probably shouldn’t be allowed to have any.
Worse than getting dates wrong is his insistence that all churches have been controlled by Satan and that true believers must leave fellowship. . . splitting apart churches and families. As well as Harold’s call for Christians to stop sharing Communion. Harold and Family Radio have greater issues than missed dates.
well said

I beg to differ. Camping will continue with his church and come up with an explanation. His followers will somehow manage to rationalize everything that’s happened. Few will leave. Things like this have happened before and they will happen again.
Agreed, Franco. Look at Calvinism, Congregationalism, Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, et al. None of the denominations follow Scripture. Not one. Yet they continue as if they all have it right. It’s disgusting.
Completely disagree. Mennonites still follow Scripture. Need to make sure of your statements before you post them!
harold camping is the leading cause of agnostics and atheists in the united states
harold camping is the leading cause of agnostics and atheists in the united states
you know i take serious issue with people’s insensitive and really, childish way of judging this man. if any of you ever really listened and understood what was going on your remarks would not be so foolish.. harold camping was a man who studied the bible for most of his life. he felt he came to an understanding about the end of the world and so he felt convicted within himself to warn people. it was an act of love and compassion which is so lacking in fellow man today. yes, he was wrong. but no one told people to sell everything they own or jump out of buildings or stop life. the point was to get right spiritually with God.. he never asked anyone to sell everything they had. as a matter of fact he told people not to believe him but to go to the bible and study it for themselves.
now there are so many super intelligent people out there so proud that they didn’t listen to him, but these are the very people that buy into the lies of the media, president, government, doctors and any other person who calls themself an expert. people send tons of money to so called cancer research for a cure they will never find cause they’re just making too much money looking for one. millions run out and buy a book just cause oprah said it was good . people run and inject themselves with any vaccine they are told to because some supposed expert told them to. people are so proud not to listen to any preacher, but they bow themselves to the feet of every supposed official and expert in this country. what a joke you all are.
The joke is the Harold and his believers. They believed they were equal to God on knowing the date of the End of Times. God’s Divine Plan is just that, His Plan. Humanity has no equal and as it says in the Bible, only God knows the date and time.
You are also a joke. I doesn’t take an intelligent person to read the Bible and use common sense that if the Bible says that only God knows, then mortals will not. You are trying to cover up their mistakes by bringing up useless comparables.
Never mind Linda – don’t be so angry with those who saw Harold as a joke. I am sure that he is very nice man who is loved by his friends and his family. The sad thing is that he was able to influence weak-minded listeners with his bizarre predictions.
Your cynicism about cancer research, vaccine developments and book reviews is sad. There have been wonderful advances in cancer research and I have several friends who are cancer survivors because of it. I too am a cancer survivor thanks to the boffins in laboratories. Vaccines have wiped out polio, smallpox and other awful diseases and have made tetanus less of the horror it once was. Oprah has put me on to some good books Linda. All the best to you Linda
It was an act of pure delusion. Any prophetic claim or claims about the nature of knowledge derived from the bible are baseless. The only difference between Camping and other run-of-the-mill Christians is that the former attributed a calender event to his interpretation. There is no reason to assume that scripture is of divine origin and there is every reason to assume that it is man made and that it lacks any intrinsic truth value.
Even the claim from anti-Camping Christians that man will not know the day or the hour is obviously wrong. Man might have had a hard time predicting natural disasters in the bronze age middle east dessert, but today we have every chance of knowing such events well in advance.
The only thing you need to know to dismiss Camping and other claims on eternity and damnation is to awknowledge they are based in scripture which possess no form of foresight what so ever.
Hey Linda, Harold Camping and Family Radio have faced a lot of derision but not unexpectedly. However, it did not seem like an act of love to tell Christians to leave their church fellowships because all churches were given over to Satan and they were the lost if they stayed. . . so many individuals and families and churches were damaged as they were torn apart. It did not seem like an act of compassion to tell unbelievers that salvation was no longer possible or for Christians to stop taking communion. Where was the love and compassion in these things?
Even now, after all that has happened, neither Family Radio or Harold Camping has the humility to repent of what they have wrought. . . instead Harold is silent and Family Radio asks for donations.
You are very disillusioned. i feel sorry for what a joke you are.
wow, Linda, one of this lunatic’s disciples, I see. How’s that working out for you?
I’ve studied the Bible for over 40 years, every day, and if there’s one thing that is absolutely clear to me, it is that when false prophets rear their ugly heads, God’s people are required to step in and challenge their authority. This man’s representatives lined the streets here in my hometown early last Spring (2011) with their signs and pamphlets. I stopped one of them and asked him what he thought about Jesus stating that “no man knows the hour, not even the Son of Man, but only the Father in Heaven.” This man’s reply to me was categorical: “In this day, we know more than Jesus Christ.”
So take your ill-founded commentary somewhere else, sister. Camping is a false prophet on a power trip from Hell.
pot kettle etc
wow impressive! so you’ve studied your bible for 40 years and learned nothing about compassion and not passing judgement to the point that you sound just like an atheist. A christian is not supposed to resemble the rest of the hating crowd. i am sorry for you. keep reading another 40 years and maybe you’ll get some enlightenment. or maybe you just read your bible to find fault in it.
im better at fairy tales than you are
@ Linda why are you so angry? Reading the Bible can give insight – but taking out time for spiritual mediation with God as well is an essential part of having a relationship with God. I think that you need to take your frustrations to God himself. Christians attacking Christians. This is what the enemy wants. God brings love not fear.

Wow! For someone to say they know more than Jesus Christ – is essentially saying they know more than God. It is amazing how influential false profits are and saddening at the same time. God is love and due to this I believe this is the reason that we are not to know the time – otherwise we will be fearful. Fear does not come from God it comes from Satan. I think what has happened is that Harold Camping has become arrogant and prideful – and can not let go that he does not know more than God. Also – his actions have made it worse on Christians. People will take us less seriously. We have become a joke is so many people eyes because of the ridiculous false profits.

when will you wake up? only if you and the stupid lazy people decide to read the bible for yourself then Harold camper won’t have that much power.
Cancer research is still more real then the Harold Camping’s teachings.
President, Government are real… even if they might have lies or things they don’t want us to know, they exist. Harold Camping’s logistics are baseless to begin with.
Yeah… i can’t stand Oprah too…..
Vaccines are real… try Smallpox, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio? oh right you got the vaccines…
read a book, read the bible yourself… instead of some old idiot telling you what he read. you lazy bum.
I find telling everyone they will suffer for ETERNITY because of stupid (according to him) choices they made in 80 years on Earth is insensitive to nonbelievers. Constantly trying to intimidate people with fear of punishment. He was downright gleeful that the “non-elect” would suffer and burn FOREVER.
How stupid is it that his believers were constantly spitting in our faces but when we laugh at his foolishness you find it offensive?
“so proud that they didn’t listen to him”??? your so offbase. Your judging everyone here because you think we think of ourselves as super intelligent? Why not just say Pharisses? Pride isnt the reason.. how about the fact that none of his dooms day predictions have come true? He wants us to believe that May 21st was the last day anyone could be saved? Should churches start preaching that? We can all stop being disciples too because everyone who can be saved has been? How about I heard one post that Harold said that all these churches have been suposidly deceived by Satan and we are not to fellowship with them. And listen to him when he said the World was going to end on OCT 21st, maybe. Its enough for me to only take him half serious when he said he knew the day (again).. the bible says different. Did you actually try to compare people being jipped out of their savings to companies doing cancer research asking for our donations(so called experts)? How about celebreties? they arent experts? may as well had added them too? Iagree with you think its futile to search for cancer cures? Wow. think your in the minority there. Do you read what you print before clicking enter? (I do)
Harold Camping needs a white jacket with no arm holes, a padded room, and a frontal lobotomy. Oh wait a minute, he needs a brain for the lobotomy. But a serious note this fossil is proof positive that religion will be extinct one day.
Linda: No he is a false prophet. Which the bible speaks of!
Mayan 2012 once? You do realize that they’ve argued that December 21, 2012 is not the right date but that October 28, 2011 is the correct date. When that date, along with 2012, passes us by, there’ll be a third calculation….
Me thinks Linda doth protest too much! Lol
If we allow faith to be more important than reason (it is not), and this is what you get– people like Camping and people who listen to him. Meanwhile the US descends into ignorance and incompetence.
Harold Camping is hardly the world’s (or history’s) worst prophit. Hundres before him have predicted the end of the world, even sometimes hitting the snooze button like he did (Probably the most famous example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Disappointment )
People believe if there’s a preacher to preach it. Maybe they’ll eventually learn.
October 21 came and went.
October 21 came and went.
October 21 came and went.
You need to go and read the Bible for yourself. I challenge you to honestly be able to say that the Bible is a man-made book once you have honestly read it. There is no way that you can possibly adhere to your present conclusion.
i’ve read it, mediocre fiction is taken way too seriously
Actually, you are incorrect there. It is NOT fiction. In order for a writing to be fiction, it would have to describe events that did not actually occur, but are imaginations of the writer. Did Jesus live on earth? Yes, many non-Christian writings attest to that. Was He crucified? Yes, many non-Christian writings attest to that. Did the earth stop rotation for a day? Yes, many scientific, non-Christian writings attest to that. Was there a great flood? Againk, yes, just look at all the geological formations that still exist today that are resultant from waters completely covering the earth. Geologists attest to this. So your statement itself is fiction.
lol nope
Actually read the Bible and you will see a huge difference.
I have read the bible, don’t see any difference.
Oh, it matters alright. The worse spirit that has entered the world in our day is that of a nihilistic understanding of punishment for wrongdoing. Everybody pays.
lol god haver
yes Linda, everybody has a right to their own opinion no matter how righteous they think they are. The trouble is for instance with my son, who has a mental illness. He was so fearful of the May 21st date that he tried to kill himself. We have been basically just trying to keep him alive until this new date and hoped that he would see that NO MAN can know what HC thinks he has figured out. Unfortunately, my son is waiting for this group to tell him what to think. He can’t think for himself now? My son who was in college, who is intelligent, who is mathematical and a musician and a voracious reader can’t think for himself! People like HC prey on people with issues-he himself looks like he has some sort of mental illness. If the people at Family Radio were really Christians they would admit they were wrong and give the rest of us out here who are dealing with the fallout, a fighting chance!
It is true, that Harold Camping has left himself open to public ridicule. Though I am sure he will find the $160.000.000 he conned his followers out of (leaving many of them destitute) some comfort in his dotage. He knew the world wouldn’t end. For him it was just a way of getting his hands on other peoples money. He is a conman. Nothing more, nothing less
geri, i am sorry about your son. but harold camping didn’t seek out your son to prey on him. priests that molest children are examples of people who prey on others.. these t.v evangelist that give you an hour long worship service about money and finances along with thier miracle cures.. they are preying on others. harold camping simply felt he had to deliver a message.. and he did so in spite of the mockery he knew he would face. he devoted time to have an open air broadcast to answer peoples questions and talk about what he understood to be true. but he is not responsible for making your son unable to think for himself. your son’s behavior has a history and an origin that is not caused by harold camping.
i also feel they need to address the issue.. but people can’t make them the reason for their own bad decisions. the man has been around for over 50 years and you can go back and listen to him and no one can say he was a thief. the guy doesn’t live in a mansion.and he isn’t one of these cult leaders that leads people up into a mountain to live. he’s a christian, so stop trying to demonize christians!
He is a false prophet, Linda. And we all know what the Bible says about what we should do with them! Certainly the last thing we should do is defend a serial deceiver of people.
@Linda he is not Christian. If he was Christian, he would understand that no one EXCEPT God himself knows when the end is near. It is people like him that give Christian’s a bad name.
allow? i hope you mean if we personally allow ourselves…cause as a society no one should be forcing anyone to believe anything. as for reasoning..on what basis should we all collectively reason. everyone has a different point of reference for their reasoning. some reason from atheist, some from muslim, some from christian, some from science.. people have to have common ground to reason. chrisitanity is not the cause for ignorance and incompetence. as you can see many incompetent and ignorant people are not christians!
Its good that you are so confident in yourself to understand all thats in the bible and know it inside and out so that when someone preaches you are sure you wont be deceived. Me, I think that the bible warns us about false teachers so not only that we wont be lead astry but so as disciples we will be carefill too. I think many in churches today whether they admit it or not are on spiritual milk and its up to the churches to nurish them.. do you remember being in the infancy stage of christianity which Paul talks about? I think we have to take what Harold did seriously because we want all our preachers preaching the truth. Imagine if 90% of preachers were false teachers , how difficult it would be on new christians. The lies about all the churches turning to Satan, if he said that then thats pretty deceitful. I dont care if he believes that himself- he should be quoting from the bible. I dont understand how someone defends someone by pointing to others that did worse? And that person that lost his whole retirement account would disagree that a tv evangelist that promises a miracle cure that turns out to be snake oil is worse? tv evangelists are hit or miss, i think their are some real good ones.
your first statement is nonsensical cause if you are not a believer,, then it makes no difference what someone else believes.. for example.. greek myths warn us about many things. yet i don’t care or get offended cause i don’t believe in greek myths. so harold camping is not responsible for non believers quaking in their boots..UNLESS you heard some sort of truth that pricked your conscious. hmmm….
i do read the bible for myself which is why i am not lashing out at him like all of you bitter bobs here. he followed an actual warning in the bible that tells believers that if they see the punishment of God comming they are to warn the people or the blood would be on the watchers hands. now if he’s wrong then instead of kicking and screaming and getting mad.. be thankful you have more time. as for the unbelievers.. you have no place here trying to argue with people who do have a faith.
I think why some are upset is bec the prophecy was predicting the end of the world. Thats serious. He caused alot of people to become anxious, depressed, or feeling disappointed that rapture didnt happen. He was a religious leader/preacher and so some took him too serious. If he had some prophecy other than doomsday I doubt people wouldnt have cared so much, they would think he was some qwuack when it didnt happen. He took peoples money also. He knows the bible says noone will know the day of Christs return but he still made his prediction. He can warn that the end is near and quote bible but when he gave a doomsday prediction he crossed the line and became a false prophet. He brought this negativity on himself.
blueshawk, if you read the book of revelations, you see how God analyzes and breaks down the major churches of that day, warning them of all the corruption and evil that was going on in them. God is stating that satan was already establishing himself in churches. now if you are a serious student of the bible then you should be able to find scripture that addresses his points. and if you are not persuaded then you shouldn’t be moved. but that doesn’t give you a license to go into this mob persecution.
Hey Linda, In Revelations the Lord brings into view problems with the churches but He tells them to hold on to what they have received and strengthen the things that remain. His word is a word of encouragement, it is a word to flee what is lacking about them, not to flee the church which is His body. When the Lord mentions Satan and the synagogue of Satan in their midst to three of the seven churches, He always contrasts and complements those who are His. . . “I know your tribulations and your poverty. . . be faithful unto death”. . . . “You hold fast My name and did not deny My faith”. . . “you have kept My word and have not denied My name.” This is a far cry from declaring that churches everywhere are given over by God to Satan and controlled by him.
Mr. Camping and Family Radio’s declaration that God had given the churches over to Satan and that believers were to no longer share communion together were based on Mr. Camping’s Bible study and his construction of timelines which have proved abundantly false. Everything followed these timelines, which were just untrue, and he pronounced judgments on things that he should not have. Mr. Camping declared things that he should not have. . . that no one has been or could have been saved over the past few months. . . or years for that matter if they assembled with other believers in a church body. Don’t you realize the damage that has been caused to the souls that have been led astray by that which is false?
Linda, unless you believe that Mr. Camping’s condemnations are still valid and true, don’t you think that he and Family Radio should repent of them? What does it mean to merely take the offending passages off the website and make no mention of their error, while continuing to ask for donations? Do they still hold to these things or are they merely too embarrassed to admit that they don’t? In either case, their silence is not helpful.
Do you still believe these things? And if you don’t, doesn’t that which is false trouble you? I have no desire to trouble Mr. Camping or join any persecution of him. While the media and everyone is fixed on the end of the world predictions, I believe that missed dates are the least of the issue. At some point what is true should matter in all this.
also, Harold Camping used to really preach about hell years ago, was very convinced it is real. But a few years back, he just tossed out the whole doctrine and says there is no eternal punishment for non-believers even though the Bible has much to say about it’s reality. I’m suprised I haven’t seen any comments about this in these blogs, and even more suprised that he could change his mind about the doctrine of hell!

i’m not trying to cover up any mistake. i never said he didn’t make a mistake. i said he did what he felt in his heart was his duty to do. what i find useless is the bashing going on just for the sake of bashing.
I feel in my heart that it’s my duty to tell you that you’re an idiot.
You’re an idiot.
You’re welcome.
False teachers and other religions not centered around Christ would agree with you there Linda. Forget what truth is, we are going with whats on our heart. You notice nobody is agreeing with you, wonder if we all must be wrong? Maybe false prophets arent such a big deal? You show me one scripture that says that, then I will look at it. Somebody says he taught there is no Hell? that would be another thing to add to his gospel (not God’s gospel). You mention that everyone is bashing him? i dont see it. I wish Harold would issue an apology for anyone hurt by his wrong predictions and doctorines.
no offense, but that’s kind of an ignorant statement considering both faith AND reason ran counter to Camping’s prediction. Anyone with reason could have easily pointed to his previous failed predictions but anyone with faith only had to point out the Bible itself said end-times “prophets” are always wrong.
It is an interesting coincidence that the Seventh Day Adventists are founded on a prediction similar to Harold Camping’s. Read the article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church
“The Seventh-day Adventist
Church is the largest of several “Adventist”
groups which arose from the Millerite movement of the
1840s. The Millerite movement was part of the wave of revivalism in the United States known as the Second Great Awakening and originated with
William Miller, a Baptist preacher from Low Hampton, New York.
Miller predicted on the basis of Daniel 8:14
and the “day-year principle”
that Jesus Christ would return to Earth on October 22, 1844.
When this failed to occur, most of his followers disbanded and returned to
their original churches.”
These failed predictions began with the author of Matthew, who quoted Jesus as predicting he would return surrounded by angels and those standing around him would see this return before they died (Matthew 16:27-28), but those people died and his kingdom still has not come.
The Bible says false teachers are
to be shunned and/or condemned. There are lots of
admonitions to rebuke false prophets and teachers in both Testaments.
For example, Deuteronomy 18:20-22: “A prophet who presumes to
speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who
speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death. You may say to yourselves,
‘How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?’ If
what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come
true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken
presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.”
The Bible commands believers and churches to rebuke people
who make false predictions claiming, “God’s has spoken thus”. There is
nothing unloving about rebuke. In fact, reproving and rebuking false prophets and
teachers (wolves) demonstrate love for people – especially believers
(sheep) - so that they will not be further misled away from
worshipping the Lord and knowing his Word. The hope is that the false teachers will admit their error,
be forgiven, and return to the fold.
Camping’s own church in CA excommunicated him after he
refused to submit to their discipline for teaching false doctrines. In addition to making
four public, bold and completely erroneous predictions in 1988, 1994 and 2011 x 2 about he nature and timing of God’s judgments, Camping is in
serious error for saying that 1. Jesus died
spiritually before he physically came to Earth (a forbidden private interpretation
of a figure of speech describing the plan of salvation) and 2. Christians should leave their churches and
do away with Baptism and Communion, the two Sacraments that Jesus established
and Paul confirmed: “Do this often in remembrance of me…in the Lord’s
Supper we proclaim Christ’s death until he returns.”
Camping was trained as an engineer. He likes numbers. Rather than
admit that he was wrong, he has justified his errors by selectively
spiritualizing passages of Scripture that are plain and clear, and by using
allegory and numerology to construct elaborate fantasies from his own mind. For
example, he has claimed that everything in the Bible is parabolic: he
continually taught that Jesus always spoke in parables (hidden meaning).
Camping quotes, “without a parable he (Jesus) did not speak”. But the
Gospels recount that Jesus later explained the parables to his disciples to
clarify their meaning. Did he use parabolic language to explain the
parables? Of course not!
Camping may have good intentions and be sincere, but people can be
sincerely wrong. Shame on him, Family Radio’s board and Tom Evans (who has known Camping for about 30 years and worked with
Family Radio for 25 years in various capacities) for not even being open to the possibility
that they were 100% wrong FOUR times about their big dates, and for not
apologizing publicly for the damage Camping has done to the bride of Christ
i think this makes him an international terrorist he posted billboards all over the world and had people in bright yellow shirts with may 21 2011 all over them and he scared people to the core, even had people kill themselves, needs to be muzzeled at the least

If you think God exists I feel just as bad for those whole believed in this prophecy. Read a philosophy book.
Hahahahahaha yes alll the elements of the universe appeared out of a effin explosion
GOD DID IT LALALALA
OMG you are so terribly illiterate.
Linda, Seem like no matter how good a case somebody makes against your position (like blueshawk) that you wont listen unless it matches up to your opinion. If Harold was in the bible as a false prophet saying he knew the day. What do you really think Jesus would have said about it? To show compassion for this false prophet? no. He wouldve warned us not to follow people like him and stay far away from him. The bible says that if prophecy doesnt come true then its not from God. whatever his fate its in God’s hands now. If i was him i would be repenting and asking for mercy. He should try to make amends, some ost their life savings and homes and jobs because they had faith in him as their church leader.
So sad people believed in the false prophets. they didnt created earth n they didnt make mankind or wildlifes. if u want to know the truth read the bible
