‘Art of Flight’ screened in UC

“Art of Flight”, an extreme sports film produced by Redbull Media House, Quiksilver snowboards and Brainfarm Digital Cinema, was shown in the Bovee University Center auditorium at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hope senior and Redbull student brand manager Anthony Lazzaro said 185 students attended the screening. The film features Wyoming professional snowboarder Travis Rice, Switzerland’s Nicholas Muller and others as they travel the world in search of the best and most thrilling mountain runs.

Macomb sophomore Katie Freeman said the stunts in the film were “pretty cool”.

“The best part was when they were in the Darwin Range” she said. “I would love to go there to do one run. It’s absolutely amazing.”

The Darwin Range is a mountain range in Chile’s Patagonia region, according to the Art of Flight film website. Other locations traveled to
include the Tordrillo mountain range in Alaska, Wyoming’s Snake River mountain range and British Columbia’s Kootenay Mountains according to the film’s website.

Freeman, who has been involved in extreme snow sports for 10 years, said she had seen parts of the movie before but hadn’t gotten the chance to finish it.

She said she came back to finish the movie because its content is exciting to her.

“The film got me excited for the upcoming snow season” she said.

Spring Lake freshman Sarah Williams said she enjoyed the film because of the riders’ passion for their sport.

“I liked how they’re passionate enough to go to extreme spots and go to extreme lengths to snowboard” she said.

Her favorite stunts occurred while the riders were in Aspen, CO.

“I like how they’re going back to spots they did when they were younger” she said.

Gun Lake junior Nick Zyskowski said he liked that the film showcased many backwoods routes and terrains not normally seen in snowboarding films.

“It was mostly all back-country riding” he said. “There was terrain that hadn’t been rode before.”
