Results of inmate death investigation released by Michigan State Police

The investigation of the in-custody death of Bradford Gibson has concluded, according to the Michigan State Police, Mount Pleasant Post.

Thirty-five-year-old Gibson, of Midland, died at Isabella County Jail on Sept. 24 after the Mount Pleasant department arrested him at Wayside Central, 2000 S. Mission St.

According to a Michigan State Police press release, Dr. Stephen Cohle of Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids said an autopsy indicated acute phencyclidine toxicity, a PCP overdose, as the cause of death.

The investigation concluded that no wrongdoing occurred by the arresting officers or Isabella County Jail personnel.

“The investigation showed what it showed,” said Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski. “It was looked into for any wrongdoing and it showed no wrongdoing.”

State Police Lt. Christopher Stolicker said Michigan State Police did a good, thorough job interviewing several witnesses for the case.

“We’re still working to track down how he got the phencyclidine,” he said. “We will seek criminal charges if we can determine who supplied the illegal drug to Mr. Gibson.”
