Football schedule announced; seven home games, only two weeknight

After playing four mid-week games last season, the Central Michigan football team will only play one home weeknight game and one away.

The Chippewas seven-game home schedule is only the third time in modern history they have had that many home games. CMU will enjoy a four-game homestand from mid-October through Nov. 3 against Navy, Ball State, Akron and then Western Michigan.

The rivalry game against WMU was moved back to later in the schedule after beginning Mid-American Conference play against each other last year.

The Chippewas will end the MAC regular season against Massachusetts – playing in its inaugural season in the MAC. That game will be televised on ESPNU and ESPN 3. That game will be on the day after Thanksgiving – Nov. 23 – at Massachusetts.

Big non-conference games that were already scheduled are Michigan State, Iowa and Navy. The MSU game will be the second week of the season on Sept. 8. CMU has a bye week after MSU before heading out to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes.

Now that’s a schedule! It’s about time, of course my daughter is graduating…

Heeke, thanks for finally listening to the fans.

Old Danny boy got lucky with this schedule.
He gets 1 extra day to prepare for MSU since the Spartans open on a Friday night.  They have one tough opener against Boise State so Dantonio can’t spend any time on CMU.

We get 2 weeks to get ready for Iowa.

We’ve got it made on the MAC schedule.  Split on the road at NIU and Toledo, win those next 3 at home which should be required.   Eastern doesn’t draw any home crowds so we should win down there.

Miami at home.   We should go to U-Mass with 1 MAC loss and the momentum should win us the West and a berth at Ford Field.

There is NO excuse for not having a winning season this year.

Kudos to Dave Heeke for assembling an outstanding schedule this fall for football.

Yes, it is a nice schedule but only 1 national TV game (espn3.com?) doesn’t help out-of-state fans. Good news is that 9 loses won’t be televised.
