Central Michigan football will be sporting a new look this year, unveiling eight new combinations of jerseys Wednesday for the 2012-13 season.
The first four Adidas outfits will have the same color pants as jersey, while the other four combinations mismatch the color combinations.
CMU will have its normal maroon home uniforms and white road uniforms, but will now have gold and black alternate jerseys to add to their lockers.
“We wanted multiple combinations, multiple sets of uniforms that we can do a lot of different things with,” said Athletic Director Dave Heeke in a press release on cmuchippewas.com. “There’s a fine balancing act between doing these trendy uniforms while respecting the tradition and the colors, and I think we’ve done a very good job.”
The maroon, gold and white uniforms will feature a new pro-brite mesh for increased durability and comfort. The black uniforms were created by a stretch mesh material.
“Uniform trends are the buzz, and they’re occurring all over the country,” Heeke said. “Central Michigan is no different and we want to be in the middle of that buzz.”
The CMU athletics website features photos and a video of the jersey unveiling.

Don’t like the black. Just sayin.
Yup, the black is terrible. You can’t even see the numbers let alone read them.
…but loooove the GOLD!
Fire Up Chips!
Mr. Heeke, what exactly is the buzz in the pre-season magazines and internet outlets about our coaching staff? I don’t think it’s very good. Kelly, Kramer, Deromedi, Brian Kelly and Butch all won championships without fancy uniforms. Shouldn’t the quality of our coaching staff be more important than uniforms?
love the black. Flat black on the helmets is sick. Fire Up Chips! …oh and FIRE ENOS!
Ok, I’ve thought it over and decided I REALLY HATE THE BLACK UNIFORMS!!!
What the heck was Heeke thinking??? What a waste of money. Of course the Irish are going to have to deal with the idea of half gold helmets… What are these atheletic directors on????
I don’t care if they play in pink thongs and flip-flops—just win, baby! It’s “show time” or “go time” for Enos and Heeke!
I agree @fe80a55a9089d9c7d887e8e758320014:disqus and @1a359afdd8ad810ae0122c55cc93f068:disqus we need to start winning this year. It is a must. Our program was in a great position after the LaFevor era and we let it melt away. There is no reason the Chips can not dominate the conference year after year. Start winning now!!!
Yahoo sports columnist’s “College Football’s 10 Biggest Issues for 2012″:
“10. Seriously, enough with the uniformsThe football fashion fetish of multiple uniforms for seemingly every school – many of them increasingly more garish – has gotten out of hand. We reached the tipping point when Central Michigan unveiled new unis that come in eight different combinations, with maroon, gold, white and black tops and bottoms. Yes, Central Michigan. … Just stop it.”
