CMU memories gives alumni opportunity to contribute letters, photos to historical display

Central Michigan University alumni can contribute articles depicting their time at CMU on Saturday at CMU Memories: History in the Making.

The event, sponsored by the Clarke Historical Library, will take place from 11 a.m. to noon in the Charles V. Park Library. Alumni are invited to bring photos, letters, notes and other memorabilia having to do with their time at CMU, which will then be added to displays created to commemorate student life at CMU through the years.

“Our hope is to give alumni a reason to visit the Park Library during their time back on campus for homecoming,” Megan Moreno, director of development and community outreach for CMU libraries, said in an email. “The library is rounding out the 10th anniversary of the renovated Park Library, and many alumni have not had the opportunity to view the great facility that today’s CMU students get to use and enjoy.”

Moreno said the Clarke Historical Library is hosting the event as part of their effort to preserve a record of student life and events on campus.

“This event will provide alumni the opportunity to sign scrapbooks or leave a photograph or note regarding their time as a student at CMU, as well as to record their attendance at Homecoming 2012,” she said.

Executive Director of Alumni Relations Marcie Otteman is looking forward to welcoming alumni back to campus for the event.

“I think it’s very cool any time we host alumni back to campus. There have been so many changes and new and exciting things happening that many folks haven’t seen yet,” Otteman said.

Alumni and students who stop by the library will also have the chance to view select panels from the Clarke Library’s previous exhibit, “Student Life and Learning at CMU,” as well as historical Homecoming programs, past Central Michigan Life issues, yearbooks and photos.

“We look forward to visiting with many alumni and current students, and would like to extend a special invitation to the class of 1962, who will be on campus celebrating their 50th Class Reunion,” Moreno said.
