Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., will speak with the Central Michigan University College Democrats in the Bovee University Center at 5 p.m. today.
Stabenow will speak to the group in the Lake Superior Room for an hour about the Nov. 6 election and the issues surrounding it, College Democrats Vice President Taylor Gehrcke said.
“The event is more open to College Democrats than to the public,” Gehrcke said. “Obviously, if someone comes, we’re not going to tell them to get out, but this is a College Dems event.”
Gehrcke said the College Democrats have been in contact with her for weeks trying to have her visit before finally hearing back.
Stabenow is in the middle of a re-election campaign against Republican challenger Pete Hoekstra. Recent polls show her running away from Hoekstra, leading by as much as 20 percent.
