Sophomore wide receiver Titus Davis tweeted “My last practice as a Chippewa” Wednesday following the team’s morning football practice, hinting at a potential departure from the team at the season’s conclusion.
He later deleted the tweet and posted, “Chippewa til the death of me #ChipNation.”
Central Michigan Associate Director of Athletic Communications John Regenfuss said there is “absolutely no truth” to Davis’ initial tweet, but Davis was not made available for comment Wednesday.
The Wheaton, Ill. native leads the team in receiving yards (860) and receiving touchdowns (8) this season with one game remaining.
Last season, Davis was named to the All-Mid-American Conference third team and was awarded CMU’s Offensive Rookie of the Year after making 40 catches for 751 yards and eight touchdowns.
CMU (5-6) will travel to Gillette Stadium Friday to take on a 1-10 Massachusetts.
Senior wide receiver Cody Wilson leads the team in receptions (59) and ranks second in receiving yards (713). His departure following the 2012-13 season will leave Davis as the CMU’s No. 1 target at wide receiver.
