Central Michigan University said early Thursday morning the suspect in an alleged abduction outside the Student Activity Center Wednesday is believed to be in police custody.
In a 5 a.m. update, CMU says the male suspect alleged to have abducted a female student at gunpoint around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot outside the SAC is ‘no longer at large’ and the vehicle used in the incident has been located.
Police say the female was taken against her will, in her own 2003 Ford Escape, before she was able to escape from the suspect at a location south of campus. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was described early Thursday morning as a white male between the ages of 20 and 30, 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds with blonde hair.
The woman is considered safe and cooperating with police.
It is unknown at this time if the suspect is also a student.
The CMU women’s basketball game played Western Michigan Wednesday night at the CMU Events Center, which is adjacent to the SAC. The game ended around 9 p.m.
CMU has scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. at the Isabella County courthouse.
