Faith Community Church’s first 5K run/walk will be held in the hopes of raising funds for a new wellness center in Mount Pleasant.
The 5K, set to begin at Island Park on Sept. 21 at 9 a.m., costs $30 per runner and $10 for children 10 and under.
The church’s first lady, Tina Hall, said the church hopes to inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle by using some of the proceeds to fund the new wellness center.
“Faith Community Church’s Wellness Center will help improve the health of individuals within the community by providing opportunities to be physically fit, increase health awareness and provide support services that reinforce continued healthy choices,” Hall said.
Ten percent of the proceeds from the 5K will aid megaCARE missions around the world. MegaCARE initiates sustainable community development through education, health care assistance, and humanitarian service and empowerment platforms.
Hall picked this philanthropy because megaCARE concentrates on health care and disease prevention by providing medicine, medical camps, building health clinics and supplying medical equipment.
“You don’t have to be an elite runner to do a 5K,” Hall said. “Everyone has the ability to do something positive for their health.”
