Behind-the-Desk: Student Life Editor Samantha Smallish

SamSmallish Name: Samantha Smallish

Hometown: West Bend, Wis.

Position: Student Life Editor

Years with CM Life: Two years

What does your desk do? Everyone has a story to tell, and my desk focuses on these unique stories and the accomplishments of CMU students.

What was the first story you covered for CM Life? The first story I did was an open forum for the group To Write Love on Her Arms.

If a movie was made of your life, what genre would it be and who would play you?

This isn’t a genre, but my life would be portrayed like “The Office,” because my life is awkward and funny and just strange sometimes. Jennifer Aniston would play me because she’s independent and original and I’ve heard I kind of look like her so that’s a plus.

What’s the best part about working at CM Life

The best part is that I get to do what I love everyday.

If you had to eat at one restaurant for the rest of your life, where would it be?

I wouldn’t! A home cooked meal is where it’s at.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Up until I came to college I wanted to play soccer professionally. Funny how things change.

  1. Samantha and the rest of the Life staffers featured in this series sound like great students and all, but seriously: Does this really warrant this type of coverage? I came to the website looking for the State of the University speech, but I’m served up this instead.

Instead of giving us these up-close and personal, warm and fuzzy profiles, how about some serious news? Life can do better than this.
