Construction for Central Michigan University’s College of Medicine facility in Saginaw is underway.
The steel beams and columns installed last week will make up the future building’s body and frame, said Steve Lawrence, vice president of Facilities Management.
Installation of the steel is expected to be finished by May 7. Once the installation is complete, metal decking will be installed across the beams with concrete poured over, helping to create the second and third floors of the building, Lawrence said.
Installation of the decks is expected to start May 8 and is scheduled to be complete by May 29.
The Barton Mallow Company from Southfield was hired on as the contractor for the project, which has a $25.2 million construction budget, Lawrence said.
The building is scheduled to be complete by May 2015.
