Union Township interested in inspection vehicle

Union Township is looking into purchasing a marked and fuel-efficient vehicle for inspections.

Manager Brian Smith said in a document presented at Wednesday’s Union Township Board of Trustees meeting that there have been calls from residents who mistook official vehicles for strangers.

The new vehicle would be marked with the Union Township logo and easily identified to ensure the safety of its members and rid the town of anxiety caused by unknown cars pulling into residents’ driveways.

Easier identification of staff conducting the required 20 percent review of all township land parcels is intended to ease the tensions that unmarked vehicles have brought during inspections.

A closed bid and approval will be conducted at the next Union Townships Board of Trustees meeting.

The biggest concern facing the board, brought up by Trustee Bryan Mielke, is that the purchase might dig into the board of trustee’s emergency fund, leaving little room for prices above the set target of $25,000.
